KAMAKURA, KANAGAWA

Traditional Japanese Cooking

A traditional Japanese cooking experience in Japan’s ancient capital, Kamakura. Shōjin ryōri—the cuisine of Zen Buddhist monks—is perfect for vegans and vegetarians to indulge in Japanese cooking. Visit a shitake farm and collect shitake mushrooms to make a soup stock. Alongside a Japanese culinary master, you will learn to cook kenchin-jiru with the stock served with sesame tofu and rice cooked in a pot. This shōjin ryōri gastronomy experience unique to Japan is offered at Modern Ryokan Kishi-ke—located in Yuigahama, Kamakura—with beautiful Japanese garden and ocean views. Available in Japanese and English.
